Many home inspectors use gas detectors when inspecting furnaces and hot water heaters. If you are considering adding a gas detector to your toolkit be clear on whether you intend to detect only combustible gas or whether you need a meter that will detect CO2 as well. Each meter has its own benefits and drawbacks, but the following meters are good meters to consider when doing  your tool research:
